How to Cut-out/Disable Traction motor of BEP32 model Locomotive (6600 series) using monitor
How to Cut Traction Motor of BEP-32 Model Locomotive (EMD System) Using Monitor
For BEP-32 (EMD System) locomotive, Traction Motor (TM) cut-out is done through the EM2000 / Onboard Display Monitor.
Important: Always perform TM cut-out only when required and according to railway operating rules. Keep locomotive safe before cut-out.
Step 1: Make Locomotive Safe
- Throttle → IDLE
- Dynamic Brake → OFF
- Reverser → NEUTRAL
- Independent Brake → Applied
- If required, isolate locomotive
Step 2: Open EM2000 Monitor
Go to:
Main Menu → Traction Control → TM Cutout
Sometimes shown as:
- Traction Motor Cutout
- TMCO Screen
- Motor Cutout Screen
Step 3: Identify Faulty Motor
Monitor will show:
- TM1
- TM2
- TM3
- TM4
- TM5
- TM6
Select the faulted traction motor according to alarm/fault indication.
Example: If fault is in motor no. 3 → Select TM3
Step 4: Change Status
Change:
CUT IN → CUT OUT
or
NORMAL → ISOLATED
Use:
- Soft Key
- Function Key
- Arrow + Enter Key
Step 5: Cut Out Speed Sensor (If Required)
Sometimes in EMD locomotives, both the Traction Motor + Corresponding Speed Sensor must be cut out.
Example: TM4 fault → Speed Sensor 4 may also require isolation.
Step 6: Acknowledge Alarm
- Reset fault if required
- Confirm no immediate trip occurs
- Loco will run with reduced horsepower
Step 7: Observe Restriction
- Reduced pulling capacity
- Speed restriction may apply
- Report to control/shed
Viva Short Answer
Question: How do you cut out traction motor in BEP-32 EMD locomotive from monitor?
Answer: First I keep throttle idle, reverser neutral and locomotive unloaded. Then I open EM2000 monitor and go to Traction Control or TM Cutout screen. I select the faulty traction motor number from TM1 to TM6 and change its status from Cut In to Cut Out. If required, I also cut out the corresponding speed sensor. Then I acknowledge alarm and run the locomotive with reduced power while reporting to shed.
Extra Viva Question
Why is speed sensor also cut out?
Because wheel slip detection and axle protection depend on speed sensor feedback. If faulty feedback remains active, false slipping or locking indication may continue.
